Hanoi – Twice

What: Two trips to Hanoi
When: May 2012 and September 2014
Distance from home:  6217
Length of adventure: A few days

Details:  The first time we went to Vietnam it was part of a larger adventure round South East Asia. We only stayed in Hanoi for 3 nights on route from Hong Kong to Thailand – it was that short trip that made me really want to go back on our honeymoon and explore the country more and go to Ha Long Bay.

What did we do?  The first time in Hanoi we did some of the main tourist things which included visiting Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, and going to Ngoc Son Temple in the middle of Hoan Kien Lake. As we were staying in the old quarter we also spent quite a bit of time exploring the back streets.

Sadly Neil then got ill and I had some time on my own so I spent a morning at a spa where I was massaged, sat in a bath of petals and given lunch. I also went to the Museum of Vietnamese Revolution which is a really good way to spend a hot afternoon escaping the sun.

The second time there we only had a day before we went to Ha Long Bay but we did have time to go to the famous Water Puppet Theatre which was really fun, the fact it is all in Vietnamese does not really matter as there are fire breathing dragon puppets to keep you entertained!

There is so much going on in Hanoi and so many people whizzing in all different directions on motor bikes you could easily just sit with a Vietnamese coffee for hours and watch the world go by!
