Several Trips to the South of France (Part 3) – Cannes

What: Cannes and a boat ride to the Iles de Lerins
When: October 2012
Distance from home: About 885 miles
Length of adventure: For the day

Details:  We went to Cannes on our first trip to the South of France. We got the train there from Nice had a lovely cup of coffee in the old town then got a boat to one of the two tiny island off the coast – the Iles De Lerins.

We went to the larger of the two islands Ste-Marguerite, as well as being a beautiful place to explore the island is also the home to Fort Royal which is a prison that held the ‘Man In The Iron Mask’.

We spent most of our time on the island exploring and taking in the views. We stumbled across a lot of people having very fancy looking picnics – if we were to go again we would make sure we had a well stocked picnic basket.
